Life sciences research as and always been an important part of his career pursuits. My current research focuses on analysing the effects of combining electrical stimulation and tissue engineering approaches for treating bone and soft tissue defects, with an eye toward improving upon current clinical treatments.
The research component of my Masters studies focus primarily on evaluating the effects of DC electrical stimulation on osteogenic differentiation of rat MSC by measuring the level of marker gene-expression, calcium deposition, and ALP enzyme activity. Specifically I am studying the role of electrical stimulation on cell calcium signaling (as potential mechanism of its mechanism of action). This will enable us to study the feasibility of combining electrical stimulation and tissue-engineering methods to improve current treatments or develop new treatments for patients suffering with large tissue defects.
