Research Focus

Hafiz´s interest in research, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, started since the time he was studying A Level in Kuala Lumpur. His interests in finding solutions and solving problems led him in the direction of a multidisciplinary course in Mittweida, Saxony where Hafiz pursued a Bachelor degree in Biotechnology/Bioinformatics.

During the final six months of his Bachelor program, Hafiz also worked in a pharmaceutical company in Penzberg, Bavaria; Roche Diagnostics GmbH where he worked in the Diagnostics Department focused on Biomarker Discovery. During his Bachelor program Hafiz also had the opportunity to learn techniques involving computer sciences, programming and algorithm development, both developing simulations for, and analyzing the biological data.

This experience sparked Hafiz’s interest in applying biology in medical treatments and led him to continue on to pursue his Masters degree in the field of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics.

Having completed the theoretical part of his Masters studies, Hafiz is now pursuing the research component at the Frankfurt Initiative for Regenerative Medicine at JW Goethe University in Frankfurt. His research at FIRM focuses on the effects of electrical stimulation on bone marrow derived stem cells in 2D and 3D cell culture.
